Tilton, New Hampshire, USA — June 5, 2020 — Following the success of two prior generations of Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) models, Avlite introduces a highly accurate, compact and lightweight Series 3 PAPI to provide pilots with critical, visual glideslope guidance during approach for landing.
Avlite’s new Series 3 PAPI is Intertek certified to AC 150/5345-28H, the FAA standard for Precision Approach Path Indicator systems, and also meets the Buy American Act requirements. Avlite is the first manufacturer to achieve both milestones. Additionally, the Series 3 meets ICAO Annex 14, Volume 1 (current edition), making the Series 3 a fully compliant, global product for approach lighting applications at all commercial, military, and general aviation airports.
Featuring a streamlined light head that utilizes patented LED optics, Avlite’s Series 3 PAPI provides the industry’s sharpest red/white transition line. The LEDs eliminate color transference typical of incandescent lights, and significantly improve glideslope accuracy and safety for approaching aircraft.
LED optics used in Avlite’s Series 3 PAPI deliver extremely low power consumption, increasing light source life and reducing maintenance frequency. A service life of up to 100,000 hours can be expected from the LEDs in Avlite’s PAPI compared to only 1,500 hours from incandescent lamps.
The compact design allows the Series 3 PAPI to be quickly set up in a portable mounting configuration for temporary applications, such as displaced thresholds.
Standard features include Tilt Switches which automatically extinguish the LEDs should proper lighthead position be altered. Large Digital Inclinometers identify accurate glideslope, and integrated Heated Lenses keep the Series 3 PAPI free of condensation and frost.
The Series 3 PAPI offers extensive options providing a customized lighting solution for the needs of a particular installation. Optional RF Control provides complete on-demand operation of the Series 3 PAPI and other Avlite aids to navigation from anywhere on the airfield or control tower. Marine grade finishes are also available, to minimize maintenance in coastal locations with high humidity and salinity.
Avlite is one of the only manufacturers to offer an LED PAPI able to support visual and infrared operational states within the same optic, making it the optimal choice for military applications where IR is required.
The Series 3 PAPI is certified for FAA Style A (voltage powered) configurations, and compliant with all other configurations and ICAO. Temporary and permanent mounting options are available across the product line.
Hundreds of commercial, military and general aviation airfields across the globe have trusted the safety of their approaching air traffic to Avlite’s Series 1 and Series 2 PAPIs. Avlite’s Series 3 now provides a technologically advanced alternative to existing LED PAPI lighting solutions.
The simplicity of the self-contained light and the option to use a PALC leaves no doubt why they chose Avlite helipad lighting.

It is a great benefit to our community to have this [Avlite’s helipad lighting system] installed and commissioned at CareFlight’s Toowoomba base. Avlite’s particular type of lighting lends itself to a lot of applications given that it’s easy to install, doesn’t require electricity as its solar powered and can be remotely controlled. It’s a fabulous technology, obviously a world leading technology and from my point of view, it’s great to see an Australian Manufacturing success story.

For an aerodrome operator to provide equivalent night-use runway standards for the RFDS and other fixed-base users at around one-third of the cost of a traditional mains-powered runway and taxiway lighting system, there has to be greater recognised merit for this (solar-powered) alternative especially in a location like ours where it is sunny most days of the year.

Our industry appreciates the on-going support of this Australian owned and operated company whose solar powered airfield and helipad lighting systems assist in the improvement of safety for both fixed and rotary wing aeromedical flight crews and passengers around the country.

As the busiest Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) based in the State [of Queensland], the benefits [of Avlite’s helipad lighting] are many. Not only does it [the system] enhance the safety of our operations, it also helps us to continue to improve our level of service delivery to the community and to our customers.

These lights [AV-70s] have been a great asset to many outback communities that previously we were not able to access 24/7.

Just to let you know the new airport floodlight has now been installed for several weeks and the medical staff and Power and Water staff [who look after the airport] agree it has made things much easier and safer for night-time medivacs. Your assistance with enabling us to have this basic but important infrastructure is much appreciated.

Since starting our distributorship with Avlite, we have gone from strength to strength with the great range of solar products and of course the fantastic support of the Avlite staff. It’s been a good year for us. May it continue.

The lights are installed and are operating beautifully.

We did install all of the lights. We even used a few red lights as obstruction markers on top of 68 meter power line towers. I finally found a high quality camera and took some photos. I will send them to you as soon as I can download them. We submitted some additional light orders to our contracting office, so you can expect to receive a bit solicitation from them soon. The lights are working great and we appreciate the support.
