The sturdy AV70 keeps on shining despite Norway's 'King Winter'
Earlier this year, we reported on an Avlite installation at Bergen Airport - Norway by Danish company Intertec A/S (Bergen Airport, Norway orders an additional solar powered taxiway lighting system for temporary operations - 19/10/11).
After a two-phase order and summer installation of AV70-HI blue taxiway lights, the most recent addition to Bergen's airport has been the installation of several AV70-HI red barricade lights. A custom solution with both an external on/off switch and charging port that was especially applicable to this project given the lack of sunlight hours in this northern latitude region.
The lack of sunlight hours in Norway was not the only challenge relating to appropriate product application. Sharing the same latitude as Alaska, Greenland and Siberia, this Scandinavian region experiences harsh conditions (as these recent photographs show).
"...the red AV70-HI barricade lights are still operating, despite the 'King Winter' and the resulting snow that has covered half the light,"confirmed Intertec's Robert Sorensen.
The coastal town of Bergen experiences high snow fall (when compared to lower lying land masses) and a temperature that ranges between -1 degree and 3 degrees Celsius. The high humidity however, makes the environment susceptible to gales, rain and clouds that can be frequent and heavy. The AV70's IP68 waterproof rating and polycarbonate lens, its robust design and ability to stand-up to the harshest conditions demonstrates the incredible versatility of this sturdy little light.
