Avlite’s WindTalker™ Installed at TPCH Impresses Emergency Rescue Pilots
Feedback from the Emergency Rescue Pilots about Avlite’s WindTalker™ installed at the helicopter landing site at The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH) has been very positive. The ability to give arriving air ambulance helicopters prior knowledge on the current weather conditions has been extremely advantageous, especially considering the urgency of their occupation. They are also finding the ability to access recorded data history via the internet very useful.
The Avlite Systems’ WindTalker™ is a solar-powered remote anemometer, enabling users to remotely access real-time and historical data about the wind speed and direction at the location of their installation. Data can be accessed via cell-phone (SMS message) or PC web portal interface.
The WindTalker™ was installed at TPCH in March 2009 and was found to be very simple to install and set up, and the robust construction of the unit has impressed Queensland Health staff. The WindTalker™ compliments the Avlite Windsock which has also been installed. The Windsock provides a visual indication of the wind speed and direction and is illuminated at night using Avlite’s solar-powered LED lighting.
“Queensland Health has had the WindTalker™ operating at the Prince Charles Hospital Helicopter Landing Site for approximately 6 months now and the feedback from emergency helicopter pilots such as EMQ and Careflight has been extremely positive. With the added function of checking statics such as wind speed, direction and diagnostic checks etc... the WindTalker™ has been a useful tool, aiding to the safe operations of helicopter patient transfers to the Prince Charles Hospital. Many thanks for another fine product!”
