Avlite Lights Up Coolah Airfield with Solar-Powered PALC System, NSW
A complete PALC solar-powered airfield lighting system has recently been installed at the Coolah Airfield in central New South Wales, Australia.
This system was purchased with integration into a solar-powered PALC (Pilot-Activated Light Controller), enabling pilots to remotely activate the aerodrome lights from their aircraft when flying in at up to 25km in distance away from the site.
Avlite Systems radio-controlled AV70 airfield lights are completely self-contained. An internally integrated RF module enables each light to remotely receive commands from a handheld radio-controller or via PC/radio-controller interface. For Coolah airfield, this radio-controller was rack mounted and connected directly to their PALC system.
Avlite field technician Bryce Harbour commissioned the project onsite, and commented “we had RAAF aircraft in the sky as we commissioned the job - the guys activated the lights for us on their flyover to test, and the systemperformed exceptionally”.
Coolah airstrip is frequently used by a range of aviation parties including the air ambulance, RAAF and local farmers/private aircraft. The airstrip is not required to be lit every night, making the PALC system perfect for the Coolah application.
