Avlite Systems Lights up Montana Department of Transportation, Seeley Lake, USA
Avlite Systems has supplied a complete solar-powered airfield lighting system to Seeley Lake Airport in Montana, USA.
The system supplied includes the award-winning AV70 model solar-powered emergency LED airfield lights configured to suit runway edge (WHITE), taxiway (BLUE), and threshold (RED/GREEN) applications. Also supplied is the popular stand-alone solar-powered windsock lighting kit.
The town of Seeley Lake is located on the shores of the lake, one of a chain of lakes in what is referred to as the Seeley/Swan Valley of Montana, and is the heart of one of the most scenic and recreational areas in the State.
The Airport at Seeley Lake is one of the most beautiful, and one of the busiest recreational general aviation airports in the Northwest. Situated approximately 1 mile from the town, the airport is home to several permanent and seasonal local hangars and is used extensively by recreational pilots from all over the United States, and in some cases, the world.
The airport also serves the function as an emergency alternative since it is one of the only suitable landing strips in the rugged and mountainous terrain for many miles. The airport is a 4600' turf airstrip, which hosts numerous events and fly-ins year round. More recently, the nationally renowned Harley Davidson Riders Group held their annual rendezvous and photo shoot at the airport, which included riders from all over the United States. Also this year, Montana has had another unprecedented amount of forest fire activity, which the Seeley lake airport is serving as the hub of for US Fire Services aircraft in the area.
"The guy overseeing the USFS aircraft ops on the airport, (as well as several of the helicopter crews that I talked to) said that your lighting was really helping out and that they were very happy about it. Not only is it immune to all of the power outages due to the fires in the area, but the lighting could be reconfigured at a moments notice so that it could be set up for fixed wing ops, helicopter ops, or for any other special arrangement that they needed", Commented Jim Griel, Chief, Airports/Airways Bureau, Montana Aeronautics Division.
