Avlite Systems' Obstruction Light Saves Local Fishermen in Micronesia
Micronesia- local fishermen who were caught out at sea when darkness fell have used Avlite Systems' obstruction lights to guide them back to land safely.
The lights were installed by Powercom Systems Pty Ltd of Tasmania, on a series of 35 and 44 metre radio towers throughout Micronesia.
Powercom Systems won the tender to install a digital radio concentrator system (DRCS) on the small group of Pacific islands which stretch from the north of Fiji some 5000km to south of Hawaii. This installation was Phase 1 of the overall project to install DRCS equipment that had been donated by Telstra from the Queensland outback.
The DRCS will enable local communities to share 15 connecting circuits and provide telephone, fax and low-speed data.
The AV125 model LED obstruction lights comply with ICAO LIOLB requirements, and will provide years of maintenance-free service – a critical feature in remote installations.
Avlite Systems is proud to be chosen to provide obstruction lighting equipment for this project. Local fishermen in Micronesia are pleased too.
